Learn about the history and delights of Curacao during this tour. Visit well-known places of interest in the bustling heart of Willemstad. 

The tour starts in Punda at the Wilhelmina Square. Visit the old entrance to the city and learn about the monuments and their typical Curacao style. You cross the quay to Fort Amsterdam (the Gouverneurspaleis), take a short stop at the court buildings and the Fort church. Walk on the famous Queen Emma Bridge (pontjesbrug), also known as ‘The Swinging Old Lady’ in the direction of Otrabanda, Brion Square.

Explore the alleyways and side streets of Otrabanda and pay a visit to ‘Santa Anna Basiliek’.

Walk through the gardens of Kura Hulanda and enjoy nature and beautiful art pieces made by local artists.

Head back to the old trading dock in Punda and visit the Floating Market with its fresh fruits and vegetables from Venezuela. Behind the Floating Market another beautiful bridge, the Wilhelminabrigde. Listen to the story about the old Jewish Savanna, Scharloo. Originally, the Jews were Sephardic Orthodox, but today the congregation is part of the Reconstructionist Movement. Like many of our North American shuls their congregation experienced a rift in the 1800’s and a group broke off to form a Reform Temple. In 1964 the two congregations were joined under the Reconstuctionist mantle. It is well worth to pay a visit to the Synagogue.

Your guide shows you the Big Market (Plaza Nobo) and Old Market (Plaza Bieu). The Big Market is full of local merchants selling everything from meat, fish and spices to toiletries, CD’s and souvenirs. Lunch is not included in the tour, but we certainly recommend that you enjoy a local lunch at Plaza Bieu after the tour.

Your walk ends at the Gomez Square.
