The Fun Reasons to visit Curacao

28-07-2009
Idyllic climate: Located 800 miles north of the equator, Curaçao lies outside the hurricane belt, making it an ideal destination 12 months a year. Daytime temperatures average 86 degrees while the nights are generally 10 degrees cooler and pleasant. The steady trade winds can be counted on to keep things comfortable.
Klein Curaçao: One and a half miles long and only a third of a mile wide, day trips to the island of Klein Curaçao are available on a number of different charter boats. Klein Curaçao offers a tranquil day away from civilization with a long sandy beach, a lighthouse, a freighter wreck, and excellent snorkeling and diving with the resident dolphins and turtles. Beaches: Though Curaçao’s beaches are not particularly long, they are plentiful, with over 50 beaches to choose from.  Click here to see all the beaches in colour. Curaçao has a beach to suit everyone's tastes, ranging from isolated private coves ideal for romantic sunbathing to expansive powdery resort beaches with friendly service and full amenities.

Nightlife: When the sun goes down so does the temperature, and the island’s bars and clubs come to life. With a legal drinking age of 16, tourists and locals of all ages can enjoy themselves on the dance floor. For early birds there’s always a good happy hour, but the real party scene doesn’t start hopping until close to midnight.

Tuesday night movies at Mambo Beach:
There are so many fun unique activities to explore on Curaçao, you’ll find it’s impossible to do them all in one trip. But that’s okay; Curaçao isn’t going anywhere, and we’re always happy to see you return and take up where you left off. Going to watch a movie might not be high on your list of things to do during your tropical island getaway, but Tuesday night movies at the Mambo Club should not be missed! Entrance is free, and beverages and food are served at the bar or restaurant but can be consumed at your seats. The movies shown are generally new releases and appropriate for most age levels, making it a fun outing for friends, couples, and families alike. The show starts at 9:00 PM, but for good seats you’ll want to arrive a little earlier; Tuesday night movies are quite popular. Like many clubs and restaurants on Curaçao, the Mambo is primarily an outdoor venue, spread along more than 100 yards of white sand beach. The main movie screen is set up on the beach, with several hundred reclining chairs neatly arranged along the sand to give everyone a good view. Half a dozen speakers provide good sound quality, ensuring you can hear the film over the waves rolling in beside you. A glance towards the heavens during slow parts of the movie might well reward you with a shooting star slicing through the clear black sky.  This is no drive in. You actually get to sit outside on the beach and dip your feet in the water during intermission. Where else can you do this 52 weeks a year without fear of rain or frost? To my knowledge, nowhere but Curaçao.

Sunsets: And of course sunrises for you early birds! Curaçao’s light cloud cover and clean air provide for postcard perfect sunsets at the end of each day. Six nights out of seven you can expect to be greeted with a fantastic pastel sunset visible almost anywhere on the leeward side of the island.

Cinemas: If your visit corresponds with the release of a movie you just can’t wait to see, stop by the cinema in Punda called "The Movies", just past the floating market. Besides the cinema at the brand new, modern Renaissance Hotel opened her doors in May 2009. Both have six modern, air-conditioned theaters showing the latest releases and they sell beer and wine! This makes a nice break from your vacation for the whole family.
Celebrations: There’s no two ways about it, the people of Curaçao love to party! Whether it’s the week-long Carnival, the Seu Folklore Festival, the Queen’s Birthday, Christmas, Easter, Rosh Hashanah, Indian Republic Day, or Flag Day (to name a few), the local populace is always ready to celebrate. And why not? They live in paradise.
Shopping: The myriad shops and markets in Punda and Otrobanda are a shopper’s paradise. Many of the narrow picturesque streets are closed to traffic, allowing pedestrians free reign. You can find great deals on clothing, electronics, jewelry, souvenir items, and much more, all within easy walking distance of the floating bridge and the cruise ship dock.
Casinos: For people interested in a little different action, Curaçao offers dozens of high-end casinos. Most of the major hotels have their own casinos, with games of chance like black jack, roulette, craps, and a full range of slot machines and video poker.
