Payment methods in Curacao
Credit Cards
Most hotels, restaurants and shops accept international credit cards like American Express, Diner’s Club, MasterCard and Visa. Please note: when paying with a credit card, retail outlets are obliged to calculate your purchases in US dollars.
If your credit card is in another denomination i.e. Euro or British pound, the transaction will be charged in dollars first, then
converted to NAF then to euro or British pound, which means that you loose on the exchange rates! Retailers frequently use
an unfavourable exchange rate to compensate the high cost of credit card payment.
Payments can be made with NAF and US dollars which are accepted almost everywhere. The larger denominations i.e. NAF100
and NAF250, US$50 and US$100 will not be accepted for small purchases. The Euro is also accepted at the larger retail outlets.
However cash payment in dollars and euros will normally be against an unfavourable exchange rate.
